Ghanaian or Nigerian Jollof – which one is better?
The Jollof debate is probably one of West Africa’s most famous friendly rivalries. You may already have tried Ghanaian Jollof – but have you tried the Nigerian version? Do you know how the two are prepared differently?
We start by visiting a Nigerian food shop together to discover some of the ingredients and products of Nigerian cuisine. From there, we make our way to the kitchen, where you will prepare Nigerian Jollof with your Nigerian host – and find out which side of the Jollof debate you’re on.
But this experience goes beyond Jollof. While cooking and eating together, we explore the close – and sometimes complicated – relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
Why is the famous “Ghana Must Go” bag called that? What shaped migration between the two countries, and why do Nigerians in Ghana sometimes face stereotypes and discrimination?
We also look at the many cultural connections between the two countries. Maybe you have already watched a Nollywood movie on a long-distance bus in Ghana or danced to Nigerian Afrobeats in a club without even realizing it. Ghana and Nigeria are connected in more ways than you might expect.

We usually cook together in Osu, but we can also cook in your own kitchen if you prefer. If needed, we’ll bring a large cooking pot – everyone should leave with a full stomach. 🙂
Depending on where you’re staying and the group’s mobility and preference, we’ll either walk or drive to the Nigerian food shop.
